Orphaned and unwanted, young Heidi is sent to live with her reclusive grandfather in a lonely hut high in the Swiss Alps. Though the old man is feared by the villagers, Heidi’s warmth and openness gradually soften him, and together they find comfort in the rhythms of mountain life. Surrounded by goats, wildflowers, and vast skies, Heidi flourishes in the freedom and beauty of her new home.
Her happiness is interrupted when she is taken to Frankfurt to be companion to Clara, a wealthy but fragile girl confined indoors. While Heidi brings joy and friendship to Clara, she struggles deeply with homesickness for her mountains and grandfather.
Ultimately, Heidi returns to the Alps, where reunion, friendship, and the healing power of nature transform all their lives.
